The Ghantaghar Jodhpur, or the Clock Tower, is a prominent and historic landmark located in the heart of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and is a vital symbol of the city.

The Ghanta Ghar was constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur. Construction began around 1909 and it was completed in the early 20th century, with the clock mechanism installed around 1910 or 1911. The tower was built as a symbol of modernization in Jodhpur, introducing a public clock tower akin to those found in European cities, and served as the sole reliable public timekeeper in an era before common pocket watches.
Architectural Style – Ghantaghar Jodhpur

It is an excellent example of 19th-century stone masonry, showcasing a blend of European and Rajput architectural styles. It is built entirely of the distinct red sandstone that is also a hallmark of the nearby Mehrangarh Fort.
The tower is a five-tiered structure made of the distinctive local red sandstone, reflecting a blend of European and Rajput architectural styles. It’s about 95 feet (29 meters) tall.
Surrounding Market – Ghantaghar Jodhpur
The construction of the tower led to the development of the surrounding area into a major commercial hub, which is now the bustling Sardar Market, named in honor of the Maharaja. The tower is often considered to signify the start of the Old City.
