About Pavagadh Mandir

Pavagadh mandir is a small hill on which Shakti Peetha of goddess Kalika Mata is there. Basically, it is a holy place for Hindus. It is Municipality in the Panchmahal district about 46 kilometers away from Vadodara in Gujarat.

It is known for a famous Mahakali temple. The temple is situated at the top of the hill. The journey seems difficult but you can catch Ropeways to make it easier.

Mandir renovation in 2021

I visited the Mahakali mandir at the start of 2021. During my visit, I found a mandir under renovation and that was not known to me. The older mandir is being modified as well as the staircase up to the mandir.

The staircase work has been completed and now it is very comfortable for visitors. the early older staircase was dangerous and was highly steep. I hope so within 3 to 4 months it will be completed.

My experience

This was my first visit to this completely unknown area. I reached the middle part of the hill where I have parked my car. The actual journey start here. Now there is two option either walk on the stares or take Ropeway ride. Because I have less time to fast I decided to take a ride of Ropeway and that was the right decision.

The ropeway ticket counter has a huge rush I was in a queue for almost 1 hrs for getting tickets. The cost of a ticket was 200 rs per person. The good thing is that at Ropeway center lot of snacks counter was available. I have taken few pictures from the ropeway.

After getting off from ropeway there is walking distance of 300 meters to reach the temple. The top part of the hill has one pond and an old Jain temple.

There are steep stairs to reach Mahakali temple at the topmost portion of the hill. the pavagadh mandir was on the top There are two altars in front of the temple for offering sacrifices to the Goddess, but any kind of animal sacrifice is strictly banned for almost two to three centuries now.

Near the Jain temple lot of shops are there for purchasing religious items and souvenirs also. This is completely religious journey. Few spots I have missed like Saat Kaman near the Vehicle parking zone. But whole journey was fantastic.

During return ropeway restaurant has good option for lunch.
