Modhera sun temple History/information
Modhera sun temple is located in Modhera village of Mehsana district in Gujarat. It was built by Bhima I of the Chaulukya dynasty. Currently, no worship is offered in the temple and it is a protected monument maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
MY EXPERIENCE
Our journey to the beautiful sun temple started at 7 am from Ahmedabad. We reached there at approx 9 am. Modhera sun temple is counted in the list of top places to visit in Gujarat. At the entrance, there were a number of carved broken stones in line to show the destruction of war that was done long ago by the Mahmud Ghazni.
The first place of attraction was the Kunda which stood aside from the lawn. It was a tank or reservoir commonly known as Ramakunda or Suryakunda. That kund is amazing you can take many more incredible pictures. The Sury Kunda had a beautiful structure with an amazing carving around it. Side of the kunda was the Gudhamandapa and Garbhagriha which used to be the temple in olden times and which was the main temple.
When I saw that monument my heart was filled with full of happiness and deep sorrow for the destruction. The monument was carved with many signs, symbols, ancient designs, animals, etc. it just gave a perfect look with the shining sunlight. I would recommend you visit this place in the afternoon or at the time of sunrise it looked more beautiful. Next to it was the Sabhamandapa which had a similar structure as the previous one.
