Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati is a very famous temple in Pune. All the wishes are fulfilled by the darshan of Lord Ganesha.  It is said that Ganesh ji fulfills every wish of his devotees who come here.

This temple was established by Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai.  Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai used to be a very famous sweets trader of that era. In 1893, there was a disease named Plague was spread in Pune, during this pandemic Dagdusheth Halwai’s son died. Shrimant Dagdusheth and his wife Lakshmi Bai were very sad because of this.

 when he met his guru Shri Madhav Nath, he asked Shrimant Dagdusheth to establish the idols of Lord Ganesha and Datta and worship of idols daily. Lokmanya Tilak himself was present while ganesh murti was installed in the temple.

Lokmanya Tilak ji started the public Ganesh festival in 1894, after that in 1896 the second idol of Ganesh ji was installed.  It took about 1200 hundred rupees to make this idol. In 2002, the old temple was rebuilt and a very beautiful and grand temple was constructed.

Jai and Vijay, two sentinels made of marble, initially catch everyone’s attention. The beautiful Ganesh idol in this temple can be seen from outside as well. The idol of Ganesha is 2.2 meters long and 1 meter wide. It is decorated with about 40 kg of gold. Devotees of Ganesha offer gold and money to him. Also, heaps of coconuts offered to the deity are another feature of the temple. The daily puja, abhishek and aarti of Ganesha are worth attending. The lighting of the temple is amazing during Ganesh Utsav.

Many celebrities and politicians visited this temple. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan had been presented with gold ornaments also.  In the 10-day long Ganesh festival, many activities are performed here. The temple is decorated, the view remains quite beautiful.

The temple trusts run many social useful programs such as providing food facilities to patients in Sassoon hospital. Temple trusts also run old age ashrams and also run some ashrams for orphan children.
