It is situated at a height of around 3,250 feet, It is surrounded by hills and is covered by thick green rainforests. Legend has it that the name Bhimashankar was originated from the river Bhima. It is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows and later on merges with the Krishna river near Raichur.
