Jami Masjid Champaner
When I saw Jami Masjid, I was astonished to see this very beautiful heritage mosque. This mosque is one of the finest mosques in western India. This Jami Masjid is part of the UNESCO world heritage site.
History
This Jami Masjid in Champaner was built by Sultan Begada in 1509. It has a mixture of Hindu, Jain workmanship and architecture.
The Jami Masjid surface ornaments include motifs of the sun, diamonds, pottery and vines and lotus insignia used in earlier temples.
Mosque structure
This mosque is built on a high floor, this mosque is 66 meters long and 55 meters wide.
To enter this mosque, there is a portico that has a large open dome built over a podium. The carved entrance doors are equipped with stone lattices. It is a very beautiful entrance, opened from the top, rarely I have ever seen such an entrance before. There are three arches made of stone mesh, which enhance its beauty.
To enter this mosque, besides the main portico entry, two smaller entrances are on both the north and south sides of the mosque. As you enter inside, there is a large open courtyard, two large towers of the mosque are seen in front. These two minarets are 30 meters high,
Main Prayer Hall
Inside the prayer hall, where the prayer was done in ancient times, this hall has 172 pillars. This main prayer hall has 11 domes. There is a big carved two-story high dome in the middle of in main prayer hall.
The structure of dome looks very beautiful. The holy place of the mosque is also nicely designed. But there is no worship being done in this mosque, there are lot of stone mesh windows for passing the natural light in the mosque.
Inside this hall, there is a separate prayer hall. This prayer hall is separated from the main prayer hall by stone jalis, where the ruler of this place or maybe women used to pray.
The fourth entrance has been provided for the main people or maybe women of the Sultanate to come inside the main prayer hall. There is a grave built in the courtyard of the mosque.
Ouside the masjid ther is one small pond. That can be used as source of water for this masjid. Jami Masjid located in Champaner which is comes in Panch mahal district.
