Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 – Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Ganeshotsav is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals in Maharastra and other parts of India. The celebration of the birth of lord Ganesha is done by the installation of lord Ganesha’s murti ( clay idol) privately in homes and also publicly on pandals.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 – This festival is celebrated most in states such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Goa. Ganeshotsav is celebrated for 10 days, where on the first day people install lord Ganesh’s murti in their home privately or publicly in pandals this is known as ganesh sthapna.
The place where the murti is installed is decorated with flowers, lights, diyas, etc to welcome the god of wisdom, ganpati bappa. The festival is then followed you worshipping the god twice a day by doing pooja, and offering lord Ganesha prasada and his favorite modak which is believed to be his favorite.
On the last day of the festival, The festival ends on the tenth day after the start, when the idol is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, then immersed in a nearby body of water such as a river or sea, called visarjan on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 -Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Ganesh Chaturthi festival has been publicly celebrated in Pune since the era of King Shivaji approx 1630 –1680, founder of the Maratha Empire. Later On The Peshwa in the 18th century were devotees of Ganesha and started as a public Ganesh festival in Pune near Shaniwar Wada. The first and famous temple Kasbapeth ganpati is just near Shaniwar wada.
In the British Raj, the Ganesh festival lost state patronage and became a private family celebration in Maharastra until its revival by Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lojkmanya Tilak. In the year 1892 Bhausaheb Laxman Javale (also known as Bhau Rangari), installed the first sarvajanik Ganesha idol in Pune city.
In 1893, the Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak praised the celebration of Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav in his newspaper, Kesari, and dedicated his efforts to initiating the annual Ganesh festival as a well-organized public event. Tilak recognized Ganesh’s appeal as “the god for everybody”

Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 -Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Ganeshotsav. Families install small clay (today it is Soil ) statues for worship during the festival period of 10 days. Todays people make advance bookings of Ganesh murti as early as a month beforehand. The murti is brought home either a day before or on the day of the Ganesh Chaturthi itself. Families decorate a dedicated small portion with flowers and other Puja accessories items before installing the idol.
When the Murti is installed, then ganesh ji decorated with vastra kangan , haar as well as flowers. On the day of the festival, mantras and pooja Aarti in the morning as well as in the evening during festival periods
