Lal Mahal Pune
Lal Mahal Pune- Shahji Raje Bhosale built the Lal Mahal in Pune in 1630 for his wife Jijabai and son Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji Maharaj’s childhood was spent here, he stayed there for 15 years until he captured his first fort. In today’s time, the Lal Mahal has been rebuilt. The Lal Mahal was situated near Shaniwar Wada. Shaji Raje Bhosale started the construction of Lal Mahal to revive the city of Pune because Mughal rular has destroyed Pune.
Shivaji Maharaj grew up here. He married his first wife Saibai, on 16 May 1640 at the Lal Mahal.
The Lal Mahal is also famous for an encounter between Shivaji Maharaj and Shaista Khan, Shaista Khan took possession of Pune and stayed with his Mughal army at the Lal Mahal. Shaista Khan was in full confidence with his large Mughal army. Shivaji Maharaj was expert in guerrilla fighting. They attacked the Lal Mahal in the night, Maratha solders quietly entered in the Lal Mahal.
Shaista khan was sleeping when his eyes opened, he found Shiva Maharaj in front of him. Shaista Khan ran for his life and jumped out of the window of Lal Mahal. Shivaji Maharaj attacked him. Shaista Khan survived this attack but his hat’s fingers were cut off.
Shaista Khan had such a large Mughal army, despite having better armed and soldiers, he was defeated by Shivaji Maharaj. After the defeat of the Mughal army, Aurangzeb was furious and Shaista Khan sent to Bengal as punishment.
At the end of the 17th century, the Lal Mahal was ruined by some people, it is said that the soil of the Lal Mahal was used as luck during the construction of Shaniwar Wada, in 1734 and 35, some houses were built on the land of Lal Mahal. Ramu ji Shinde and Ramchandra ji were sent to use the full position of Lal Mahal but no one knows the exact location of lal mahal but it is believed that it was near Shaniwar Wada and this is the same place where Lal Mahal is now rebuilt.
The construction of the present Lal Mahal started in 1984 and was completed in 1988. The Lal Mahal in today’s time is a two-storey initiative, similar to the monument, with a picture of the life of Shivaji Maharaj on the first floor. The model of Raigad fort is kept near the main hall. Here is a beautiful statue of mata Jijabai. its first floor having museum is still undergoing renovation, so it is closed.
